Former child actor and star of films The Client, Apt Pupil and Sleepers, Brad Renfro, was found dead in his apartment yesterday at the age of 25.
Although no cause of death has officially been released, it is known that Renfro battled with addictions to drugs and alcohol.
With Britney’s struggles hitting tabloid headlines daily and an ever growing list of young celebs admitting they have issues ranging from addiction to anorexia – do you think it’s a good idea to expose children to the limelight?

I was so shocked to see that about Brad Renfro.

I had such a huge crush on him when he was in Tom and Huck :(

I'm confused with that third choice......Even though Joaquin Phoenix grew up to be very respected didn't his brother River die from a heroin overdose at the Viper Club. I voted for the second choice because a good amount of these child stars have lived very stressful and destructive lives : (

We're all on a self destruct pattern without subjection to a monstrous circle of media and pressure. If I was God, I'd smite the media and make everyone equal again.

If there were a God election every four years, I'd vote for you in '08.

I wish I'd been a child star. I would have probably turned into an asshole, but at least I would have been a really rich asshole. I would have eventually stopped being an asshole and gotten even richer.

Lack of parenting and a complete lack of context when it comes to developing a sense of professionalism are probably more to blame here than the availability of drugs, fame too soon, or money too soon.

Call me harsh, but I don't have much sympathy for teenage millionaire superstars who throw their lives down the toilet out of boredom or whatever other bullshit makes them angry. Wankers.

What a shameless waste of potential.

i didn't take the poll, but i will say that someone with an addictive personality will follow that path no matter what (and renfro was a very gifted actor. did you see apt pupil?) it's a tragedy
(and please pass the word to buzznet to stop dangling these craptastic enlarged thumbs over things i am trying to read and see)

I really think its a shame the way pretty much all child stars out. they are washed up and burnt out by 20 and thats their whole life. Look at Macauley Culkin.

Family and friends are important, of course... but doing what you love without the pressure that parents generate on their kids in order to make them famous and become rich is very important too!! If the kid is happy doing it, then go ahead and suport it. But if that's not the case then parents should back off and let them be whoever they want to be... Sometimes it feels like the parents are living their dreams through their kids and that's really sad!!

I picked #2. I think a certain loss of innocence comes with childhood fame and I would never want to subject my son to that.
